Can someone tell me what this pictured connection goes to?  From a 67 Mustang 200 6 cyl 3 speed. This connection comes out of the harness right by the ignition switch. There is some sort of over spray on it but the wires look like blue with red stripe. Could it be tach?

It is not used on most cars. I believe that it is a dash light circuit. It would be used if you had a lighted ash tray.

Marty is correct. Just need a wiring diagram and it would have identified the circuit and in turn limited the possible uses and applications. Wire looms were somewhat generic and designed to be used on various similar Mustangs so there are plugs that are not always used on every car.

Thanx guys. I have a perfect 67 original Mustang to look at 6 miles from me that was produced in Dearborn 2 mo before mine and it was unused also.

I recommend that you get a set of Mustang Assembly Manuals for your year car. You will find in the Electrical Manual, wiring diagrams with color codes listed. That particular combination on your 67 is the same color combination used on my 99 E250 Van for the same function, switched-dimmed instrument panel, radio and accessory lights.

First time I ever heard of a lighted ash tray option on a Mustang.
I always suspected the engineers considered it at one time but never followed through adding it.
Would Shelby use the plug for the Shelby oil pressure and ammeter gauges? I know I have used the plug for extra accessories back in the day when needing a dash light source.

The ash tray retainer had a special rectangular hole for a light bracket. Its Ford part number is C4DB-62048326 indicating a Fairlane developed item. Did 64 Fairlanes have lighted ash trays?

I have seen such a hole on other cars, even ones WITHOUT an ash tray light but do not recall ever seeing this square hole on a 67 or 68 Mustang ashtray.

Pictures Please ;)

Here is one on my dad's 68 S code coupe. It is not mentioned in the 68 courtesy light option. I suspect it was a dealer option possibly used on other models. The wiring appears to be Ford. It seems that I may have seen it in some wiring diagrams but can not remember where.
