67-up 390/428 starter nose
« on: April 14, 2019, 04:58:42 PM »
While going through my starter collection to harvest parts for my car I came across a C5AF-A 390/428 starter nose.

Do the rebuilt and later BB starters have the cast-in reinforcements like the rebuilt and later small block starters? Or are they all smooth like the one in the pic?

The cast in reinforcement gussets began to be employed starting in 1971-72 on both the SB and BB. Before that time no extra ribs on the outside or on the inside nose.

Very good. Thanks.
This came on a starter with a Rebuilt by  Autolite sticker and gave up it's barrel and field coils for my early starter. Oddly, it had a junk armature inside which had to come from some parts swapping prior to it ending up on a swap meet table.

I thought it might be early due to lack of gussets, but I don't do big blocks.

I'll stick it in an ad here in case someone else is looking for one.
My early small block nose was easy to find at a high price ... Not so much at my price.
