Topic: 68 starter

Need help identifying a starter, the part number cast in the bell is C8OF-11131-A.  I believe this to be an original takeoff, as it is all black except for one mounting ear which is unpainted, similar to the factory.  I took this off my former J code/automatic coupe when I rebuilt the motor.   Thanks

+1 . If a assembly line starter it would have the engineering number metal stamped into the body of the starter independent of the nose. This was started sometime in 67 production . The 65-mid 67 had nothing and used a ink stamp for identification. After mid 67 they were metal stamped. If no stamp then it is most likely a rebuild using a combination of parts which was typical. The rebuilders many times also sourced after market unstamped main bodies because of the confusion the metal stamped numbers could cause confusing a application.

A little cleaning revealed Autolite 12V C7AF-11001-B  8D11C stamped into the body as described.  My guess is this is an original starter built April 11th, 68', C shift?  Mike

Ah- ha that is what we were looking for    Don't have a 68 book but its listed as a small block applications in Fords 67-69 I believe

Believe (following Ford pattern of indicating the plant that made the part) the C might represent Cleveland.  Ohio

Just like every other starter - semi-gloss black - slip over mask over the cable post, paitn faded to almost nothing at the base/attachment end to insure good grounding .

Will see if I can find a picture   just got in from SAAC national convention

Couple of examples though the applications are different from yours, of the fading of paint to no or minimal paitn at the base to insure good grounding

Just revisiting and adding to this older thread after digging out a picture for a response in another thread.

Not sure if I took notice of this before but wanted to post a picture of a 68 small block being installed at San Jose during 1968 production. We don't have any record of what month this was but you can clearly make out the ink stamp on the starter in the picture
