Heads up on crook in the Bay area.
« on: November 01, 2010, 12:27:36 AM »
If anyone is looking for engines please stay away from a guy out in California known as Big Block George.  He sells a lot on eBay under the name Groundnut and My stuff. He sold me what was supposed to be a standard bore rebuildable 390 block for a project for my son. What turned up was a block with 3 separate cracks in it. His ad at the time said "all blocks have been magnafluxed, cleaned, blah, blah, blah so that my customers are assured of getting blah, blah, blah". Well once I got this block to my engine builder it turned out to have the aforementioned 3 cracks. Machinist said most likely due to overheating in the past. I let Big Bull$hit George know about it the day the machinist told me. He said he would find me another block. Well Mr. My stuff stalled long enough on finding a block that any recourse I would have had with eBay ran out. He had the audacity to offer me a block in mid July but it would be $1000 more than what i had already paid him. He must have been on crack the day he wrote that email. I said no thanks send me my money. Now it's been 6 months and he won't pick up a call, will not answer emails or anything. He currently has a number of engines, heads, blocks etc for sale on eBay, so BEWARE of this scumbag. Took me for a pretty penny and all I have to show for it is boat anchor taking up room in my garage. WORTHLESS!  Remember the name George Luanis, Big Block George, Groundnut and My stuff. Answers the phone initially as Anthony but then becomes George. He has a Jersey accent but now lives around San Jose. Pass this info on to your friends.

No help for you, but maybe he's being more careful, at least based on a single data point as the description of this item (ebay #120462760753) seems to have more caveats.  Hang in there.
'66 Plain C-code coupe.  Original black California plates still in place.  Can't guarantee it's original, but the block and heads are within a month of the scheduled assembly date in San Jose/Milpitas.

Is it worth contacting this outfit to see if the block can be saved?  I have no direct data, but I know my engine builder was going to see if they could help with some Cobra heads he's trying to save for another client:

"Cast iron repair is our specialty
We can fix it or you can fix it; either way, we can help"
