Topic: Common parts on 68 8 inch amd 9 inch axle assembly

What parts are common on the 68 axle assembly?  Obviously not the differential assembly or the housing, but what about the axles, backing plates, studs, brake parts, brake drums, yoke?  "U" bolts, shock plates, emergency brake cables?  Thanks

Big request John - so maybe we can tackle it as a group.

I'll go first

Same originally - Shock plates, E brake hardware and cables, brake stuff,  yoke, U joint and retaining U bolts are dependent on engine and options not on 8" or 9" I believe so there are multiple different types rather than 8" or 9". Backing plate to rear housing bolts and nuts. Retaining studs and hardware (nuts and copper washers) that hold the third member to the housing. Can't remember if all got the same oil scoop on the inside of the housing

I might add the axle vent hose to Jeff's exhaustive answer. As a side note, the e-brake cables were different between the 6-cyl and 8-cyl mustangs for 68. I know that doesnt apply to your question, but I thought I would throw that out there.
