1968 Shelby Vert Ammeter/Junction Block Wiring
« on: November 20, 2024, 01:43:40 PM »
Having looked at previous posts, pictures and wiring diagrams on this subject, I am still confused on wiring connections to junction block and solenoid.
1. Mustang wiring diagrams show a fusible link from positive side of solenoid to the junction block. The power feed for top motor connects to this. Makes sense.
2. The Shelby assembly manual shows the console ammeter wiring (I'm using the AMP harness) red lead to the positive side of solenoid, connected to ammeter. The black lead then goes from ammeter to the junction block.
3. My question then becomes A: What happens to fusible link as it is now bypassed by ammeter, and how is circuit protected? and B. How does ammeter measure current as it it would only see draw from top motor? Do I switch the yellow regulator wires from the positive side of solenoid to the junction block?

Thanks for any help.

There are two different junction blocks. The convertible top wires do not use the same junction block as the alternator gauge.

Picture of the 68 Shelby gauge junction block and the convertible fusible link junction block.

Got it a nd makes sense. What wire then marries up to the ammeter junction box in addition to the ammeter lead?

The black lead from the alternator gauge goes on the junction block with the double lead from the headlight harness. There is also a single lead from the alternator.

The red lead from alternator harness goes on the positive side of the solenoid.
