HiPo Motorcraft 12127 Distributor?
« on: January 18, 2019, 11:59:31 PM »
Hi all,

This distributor is currently for sale on eBay. The tag attached to the distributor reads 4M 19 C50F 12127 E. The body of the distributor has a casting number 12127 and reads Motorcraft not Autolite. Also has dual point guts installed inside the distributor. Was this a service replacement for the HiPo dual point dizzy?

I'm a little stumped. It also appears that the bracket that the diaphragm bolts to is on the side of the dizzy. Was this a later made service replacement?

That is a legitimate, functional Ford REPLACEMENT distributor. It will fit, it will work, it will not pass judging. Remember, Ford did not make concourse grade cars, nor did they make concourse grade replacement parts.

I would assume that since this is a replacement part, it is not worth quite as much as an originally equipped HiPo dizzy. Probably in the $200-$300 range?

I also find it odd that the diaphragm bracket is there. Any guesses as to what the 4M 19 stamped onto the tag represents?

4M 19 is a date code.

4 = 1974
M = December
19 = Day of Month

Motorcraft did not exist before 1971, so the year ending in 4 cannot be earlier. By 1984 there would not be enough demand for that part to warrant stocking it at a Ford dealer.

Seen allot of these over time - think they were more of a 80's time period but really doesn't matter in the long run IMHO
