1969 Voltage regulator color
« on: December 02, 2018, 06:11:46 PM »
Been searching but do not find this topic. What color is the voltage regulator for a 1969 Mustang? The vendors sell them in two colors,  "Ford Dark Blue" and "Ford Blue". There may be other names for these colors as well, but its the darker early color vs the newer (1970?) blue. Examples included.

Accurate looking but not a Concours Restoration/build. See my build photo gallery at 69GT350 Hertz Build

Don't know that anyone has posted what the exact matching color would be in new readily available rattle can color would be. Have examples of originals but don' think that will help. Have painted them in the past but don't know brand, color name or code so can't recommend :(

Only recall that a close match was one of the many Ford corporate blues that was available locally

Sounds like a test is in order unless someone can offer a personal recent experience of what worked or even didn't

This may or may not be apply to your situation but FYI we have been discussing this regulator in another thread but wanted you to be aware according the the 1969 Ford service specification book that particular regulator would be used with a 55 amp alternator. If you had a 42 amp alternator for instance the case would still be blue but have a silver stamp that would read C8AF instead of C8TF. Bob Perkins has seen the C8AF silver stamp on Boss 429 and many Boss 302 applications. The C8TF yellow stamp is the only one that was serviced by Ford so it found it's way on many cars that didn't ordinarily have it from the factory.
