Topic: Door Window Hardware Mounting/Plate ?-70 Dearborn

I have seen a number of restorations with cad plated door plates for mounting the window hardware and some painted body color. From my disassembly pics I find that my plates have been painted body color yet the mounting bolts are plated and not painted (ignore the green color change, second owners vision??). My question is where both methods used on the 1970 mustangs and if so HOW did they paint the plates and NOT the bolts, as the bolts hold the plates and I would have to assume the plates where not painted separately before bolting to the door.

Interesting thanks would have never thought they did that, but would explain why my plates are painted body color and the bolts are cad plated. Is what you have pictured the original paint, as I would have never seen that on my car because that area is all blacked out. What is interesting is they also blackout an area at the back of the rear window, I have no idea why but I also reproduced this in my restoration. So I am also guessing then that restorations I have seen with the cad plated plates are incorrect?

have also seen them laid on the rear window ledge to be painted  but at the moment can't recall if it was a 69 or 70 Mustang that I recall. On Mustangs you have 4 of them unless its a sportroof/Mach I.  Details just depends on the plant, year and worker

Have seen them in a number of different finishes under the paint. For the visible look/finish we would again look to when and where the car was built. Since yours is a 70 Dearborn built very early in the year we would focus our search there.

Will look at my pictures and hopefully enough of them will have some of the area we're looking for in a picture or two

Sorry got distracted with the holiday

So looking at around your cars assembly period at Dearborn I found that the majority of cars from this period had their window adjustment plates

Great examples, it looks like most of the plates are painted with the bolts cad plated just like mine where, that is actually calypso coral under the bolts in my top topic picture not prime as the picture may indicate. I will have to get them painted separately as the car is already finish painted. Thanks again for your time and help.
