Bill,67-70 Shelby with a knock out would have points deducted in a concours venue because no evidence suggests that it was typical for one to be intact when it was delivered to the first customer. 66 is a different story......

+1 IMHO at this point. If more findings are made or if a car showed up with originals in place it would surely start the discussion and investigation again.  Believe that if we saw one tomorrow and depending on the response from the owner builder it might get the benefit of doubt response as we have with many other conditions (not all ;)

This is one of the reasons we have these discussions on line is to discover, learn and discuss the possibilities and new findings.

When I find time will drag out a bunch of later backing plates  and go through them as well as pictures. Believe we'll find of what remains of the knock outs on later cars but will wait and see - while having an open mind and until some documented facts/examples appear

It's always tough trying to figure this out unless we have your experience from the many sightings you've had from the field.
