68 engine compartment sheetmetal date codes
« on: August 21, 2018, 02:49:07 PM »
Should date stamps always be in the same place on all sheet metal stampings ?  Were dates made as part of the stamping die's ? Also where is the common location for the  date stamp for the driver side apron sheet metal that is stamped with the drivers side Vin number ?

The date codes would have been stamped at the same time the part was formed.

Location may vary, best to compare with cars built close in production to yours.

In general yeas the dates would be in the same place just about every time but it depends on the stamping plant and where they placed the location of the ingot in the press mold.  So if you don't know what stamping plant supplied a particular panel to the year and car assembly plant your focusing on they can appear to vary but its not like the stamping plant could change the location of the date without extra cost and down time for the pattern
