Topic: 1965 SJC built DSO 75

Would a '65 gt fastback built in San Jose with a DSO of 75 (Phoenix) have had the California Emission?...which I understand was just the hose from the air cleaner to the oil cap breather....or was it just the pcv valve from the back of the carb base to the passenger side valve cover pcv valve?

Was going to ask when the car was built at San Jose but given its a GT that would identify a range of possible build dates that would help form an opinion of what was going on there during that time period.

Looking at other cars built at San Jose but ordered and delivered outside the state during the spring and early summer 65 I found the following

Cars were built with an open system so no sealed breather cap, not connection/hose to the air cleaner nor nipple on air cleaner base.

Must report that I do have a few pictures of non-California cars with the breather cap to air cleaner connection
Seattle - Feb (projected) build date


Would expect the PVC systems to be all the same

Thanks.....good information to know....it was built May '64.....which would account for the spinner hubcaps, as styled wheels weren't available yet.

I'm confused. You posted that the car was a 65 GT  but that does not match  the "May 64" date you posted in your last response Did you possibily provide the wrong year in reply #2?

Even sold in California, the emissions system was not mandatory until 66, right.? 65 were exempt of the smog system since I know, but I can be wrong..

Depends on you you are or were dealing with Thermactor systems were and continue to be what was/is required on all 66 Mustangs originally sold in the state. Jan 1 does not come into play when dealing with the Air Resources Board or BAR over the years. I was one of what I recall was maybe five speakers panel at the state level when we established the current inspection requirements

Sometimes times people confuse "smog systems" with only thermactor systems. The closed system (the breather and pcv) alone is a emission system and in later years there are all sorts of non-thermactor emissions  systems that were standard on these cars like the 72 system controlled by the transmission, IMCO and the Dist-o-vac systems

My DSO 75 May 65 SJ GT fastback has an open breather and only a pcv. If it is a May 65, then no closed system.
