Early Timing cover?
« on: July 31, 2018, 07:19:29 PM »
Pulled the timing cover off a march 30, 64 289.  It has the screw on timing pointer, not the cast in pointer.  Does anyone remake these?  Not sure if this one will clean up well enough to reuse.

Don't be afraid to use the casting number to identify what cover you have. It "may" be not what you need.

I believe the later years (68+) had the screw in pointer. The early cars had the cast in one. NPD sells a repro with the aluminum water pump which you should have.

It sounds like the service replacement timing cover what with the screw on pointer and designed for aluminum waterpump. It is a replacement so if damaged you will not be losing much in the way of authenticity if you replace it with a repro.
