Seam Sealer used in the engine bay? May 69 Dearborn
« on: July 30, 2018, 08:57:43 PM »
My car was built May 69 at Dearborn, Anyone know what areas seam sealer was used on the inside of the engine bay area?"
I did find some trace of seam sealer on the inside corner of divers side rear apron to firewall joint of the engine compartment but wasn't sure if the other 3 corners had the sealer or other areas inside the compartment?
Many Thanks

If your asking about seam sealers on the inside of the engine compartment you have the sealant along the cowl to firewall pinch weld. When this was beign applied it was not unusual for it to drip onto the face of the firewall in places but that would not have been wiped or smeared.

You have the spray on sealer around all the holes, brackets, electrical and attachments attached to the firewall or passing through the fire wall

With that said the two rear corners where the rear inner fender panels were attached to the firewall they were normally sealed on the wheel side of the inner fender panel so sealing them again on the inside would not make much sense. On the drivers side it would not be unusual for the spray on from sealing the electrical pass through to the outside of the master cylinder would be typical but can't find an example of seam sealer for that plant and time period but as you can see below the guy doing that task didn't always seal everything he was suppose to do  ::)

In the front two corners where the front inner fender panels attach to the radiator support I've never found any seam sealer applied there nor can I think of a purpose.

At the same time if your car is original and you can determine that what you found was original I would document and reproduce what you found but no more than that
