69-70 suspension color question
« on: July 22, 2018, 01:35:40 PM »
Can someone tell me the color  ( natural or black) on the lower tie rods spindle adjuster- the one that 2 bolts on it and adjust the tie rod ends either in or out?

It's called the "Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeve" and should be natural. To get a "natural" finish, I bead blast then a lite phosphate and oil treatment. The hardware should be darker. No paint.

Jim thanks for the info " on the tie rod adjusting sleeve" as just couldn't think of the name ( older age brain fart) but thanks for quick response.

I thought it was natural but seen so may picks that show them in black

thx again Mike

Must be looking at pictures on other sites ;)

They have been discussed in a number of threads. Your aiming for a finish lighter than the tire rod main body due to the metal they are made from and how they were treated and formed

The tie rod ends are forged and heat treated so that will be a contrast. They're almost as dark as the hardware, except for the steel cover on the bottom. Jeff covers that elsewhere in a post.

A common affliction (what were we talking about?).
