Sorry if this is an old topic. I haven't located a posting on this topic.
Non Smog Cars - I have seen FoMoCo caps and autolite (with the red sticker in the middle). Which caps were used first and when was there a switch-over made to a different cap?
Were can I find reproductions of these caps?
And then there are the Smog cars that has a Black Cap (Big red and white sticker) used on the intake and a ridged cap on the valve cover. Were these caps used throughout the entire production?
Does anyone make reproductions of these?
For non smog cars the twist on valve cover cap were supposed to be chrome twist on by design but black twist on is not unheard of. Fomoco in block letters in the rectangle was early and Autolite was later production.
The red and white stickers were not used on ether intake or valve cover breather caps for 67 Shelby cars. The push on oil fill cap for the intake was designed to be chrome but black is not unheard of. FOMOCO in script in the oval was early and Autolite was later production. The push on cap is available reproduction with the Fomoco in the oval but not Autolite. The twist on cap is available reproduction with the Fomoco in the rectangle . NPD or Virginia Mustang come to mind as a source. The valve cover cap for a smog car is commonly referred to by enthusiasts as the "cookie cutter design". It is typically chrome but black is not unheard of . The majority of the caps were Autolite marked. I have seen some that were not marked however. The smog valve cover cap is not reproduced at this time.
