Engine ground Strap
« on: April 15, 2011, 06:43:17 PM »
I am restoring my 1970 Boss 302 built March 1970 from Dearborn plant and was wondering if anyone knows should there be a ground strap from the engine to the engine compartment and if there should be one would it be a wire style of ground wire or a bradded flat strap?  Thanks for any input. Brian

Yes there should be one between the passenger side head and the firewall (passenger side near heater motor) Originally these were the wire type with the metal eyelets at both ends

My 70 boss 302 does not have a ground strap and I don't see any indication there ever was one. The 69 models have the ground strap from the firewall to the engine however the 70 incorporates this in the negative battery cable by having a mounting tab that mounts to the rt. apron assy. near the battery. This is what I understand to be correct.

Brian Chris is correct for a 70+ (sorry I just fell into what the earlier years used :( the body ground is incorporated into the grounding strap that travels between the engine and the battery

Sorry for the confusion - seems that one can't be right all the time on the first attempt ;)

Thanks Chris
