From what you saw will it take a ton of work to get it to concourse condition
Any real stumbling blocks I have to over come?
Thanks for all your help!!!

One thing at a time makes it a whole less overwhelming. Sometimes a good place to begin is some of the most obvious issues, ones that do not involve repainting since the paint looks so nice at a glance. I do wonder if the fender(s) or other body parts have been changed, original floorpans or replacements and such. Perhaps have that previously mentioned inspection done by a member of a local Mustang club (preferably an MCA affiliated club) who can help you make decisions, put together a task list. Where do you reside? Maybe somebody can make a refferal to a club that can help you out.

Richard, just so that there is no confusion, replaced body parts (or anything else for that matter), as long as implemented well, should have no bearing on MCA Concours judging, but it would on the Thoroughbred classes.  As far as the affect on resale value goes, that depends on the buyer.  Given two nearly identical cars, some will pay more for authentic, original sheet metal, but there are many that don't care as long as it looks decent and shines.

I agree that the potential buyer here should consider reaching out to someone with experience to get that independent perspective.  Another set of eyes never hurts.  There are many on this site that are "here to help", including in person on occasion.  If he is in Timbuktu (no offense to anyone there), then quality close up pictures would be second best.

Car looks beautiful. I saw that ad as well and found it very odd that there were no pics of the engine compartment and undercarriage. If the exhaust needs to be replaced, that could run about $3k. The radio probably won’t be cheap either. When you do get it, I would be interested in any numbers you might find on the alternator mounting brackets.

Have fun and enjoy!

If you are in the Midwest we are hosting a MCA National show in Lincoln, NE. July 13th-15th. However the registration dead line is this Sunday. If entered in a Concours class it would be judged on a 18 page 700 point judge sheet by some of the most qualified judges in the country. Afterword you can request your judge sheet and that will provide you a excellent work sheet to upgrade your car.

Only issue I can see there is that he will only find out after purchasing the car. Not the time to find out issues, problems and such. Your not getting the car cheaply. Get someone who knows the cars to give it a complete once over and I'm not suggesting someone that is close but the best you can find. A complete inspection is IMHO and others, a very small investment given the price of these cars, and confirmation, hopefully, of what your eyes and your possible rose colored glasses are telling you ;)

I guess (didn't see it mentioned in a prior post) that you have gotten a Marti report on the car as a starting point.

Replacement work and panel replacement will likely make a difference when it comes time to resell the car - IMHO much more important than how a judging event will react to those findings. If they find it - they will let (or should) you know    ::)

Using the judges and a show is sometimes frowned on by some since many consider this a place for only those who have spent the time and effort to prepare a car just for that competition but it has been done many times. It will stand our and be obvious if the car looks like it just rolled off the street.

A prepurchase inspection can take care of all of this and an agreement with the inspector (if you get one of the right ones) you can have an improvement list produced also at the same ti,e.

Jeff I understood that he bought it. I would agree completely on a prebuy inspection.
