69 250 E Transmission Crossmember Discussion
« on: May 18, 2018, 11:47:43 AM »
Thanks Ruger!  Very interesting, it is a different piece!  Out of curiosity, does your E have a C4 transmission similar to a full size Ford, with a 164 tooth flexplate and bell housing and a pan-fill dipstick tube?

Yes,  C4. As far as I know on the flex plate.  Haven't looked in a few years.

Do you recall if the trans dipstick tube goes into the aluminum case or into the trans pan?

Will have to look later.  At work at the moment.  Is this cross member different compared to others you have seen?

Yes, it has its own part number specific to the 250 E, and I wasn't sure what the differences are.  I can see right off the bat that the slotted holes for the trans mount are much shorter than other 250 crossmembers, i'll have to dig one out and do a proper comparison.  Apparently, there were quite a few differences between a regular 250 and a 250E, drivetrain-wise.  Weird and wild stuff!

thanks,
g

Yes,  I talked to Ralph Arning at Ford.  He was around back in the 60's and remembered all of the engineering going into the E's.  He did not directly work on it but remembered they went wild on engineering.   Told me also the engineers were all passed away now.  I am still learning about the E' after several years of research.

I have a 68-71 Master Parts catalog that calls out a lot of the E-specific parts.  For example, it had its own service block, and calls for a different transmission mount than any other Mustang.

Cool,   I cannot remember if it is in good usable condition.  Could you give me the # to that mount?

Thank You very much.  I hope I don't have to chase more parts around.   I am looking for a better seven blade fan with clutch.  Would you happen to have that #.  Sorry,  I promise not to ask too much.

Split the subject and moved it since this line of discussion took a right turn off thread  ;)

Are you asking for your 69  six cylinder C4?

I Found C8OZ-6068-A listed for convertible applications rather than the C8ZZ-6068-A service replacement for sportroofs

Thank You Jeff,  yes.  For the C4 .  The mount seems to be a little mangled but possibly usable.  Will find out here in this summer.  Thanks for the number .
