Replicate factory build and/or MSRP sheets
« on: April 16, 2018, 11:20:21 PM »
My 65 convert resto is finally completed. I'd like to collect more info about the origin of the car
Is there a source for getting a replicate factory build sheet and/or a MSRP sheet using the original VIN tag information?

Don't believe so and its going to be a fun task to figure out all the codes for the early car. There is a thread here on the site discussing those.

A bigger challenge I think will be the multi copy tractor(S?)  paper  used in the dot matrix printers with the preforated side strips.  Haven't measure an original but the larger version is a different width than the reproductions I recall correctly

Last later (full size)  build sheet I reproduced took some time and I found some paper that would work from an old box I found in a print supply store. Still had to modify it for width

Use to be a few places that reproduced the window stickers. Some better IMHO than others.  A reason to keep old tools around for things like this

Unfortunately no. Ford made a business decision for its assembly line and ordering data for 1967 and on to be computerized. 1966 and earlier was not converted. The data may still exist but after 50 years, IBM cards are probably not in good shape.
You can get a reproduction door data tag from Marti Auto http://www.martiauto.com/

Thanks for the info.  If a Ford database isn't available, I don't think I will put much more effort into it now, though I will try to locate the thread you mentioned.  I"ll just go with the original VIN tag on my door.  After 44 yrs I think I'll just drive and enjoy it for now.

How about building a window sticker for project?

Wonder why they didn't reproduce those window stickers correctly or in full. Wonder if it was a way around copywrite issues of the time?

Will post a picture showing the difference

Thanks for posting the sites for option info and the CJ Pony blank MSRP sheet.  Since my car is factory original I can probably get my build info from the list of options.  How to get that info onto a correct sheet may be difficult.  But it's a start.

As promised a scan of an original to compare to the repo

Notice the SOLD TO: section is missing on the reproduction  just one of the details

And an earlier 65 version before they went to the one above though it appears its the same form number

You'll also notice that the original prices do not always match what is shown in the the link posted above

Different forms? Your San Jose form example, 5R07C1254xx, falls into very early August 64 production, while the Dearborn form example, 5F08U2075xx, is actually a 64 1/2 car.
Attached is my May 65 GT Fastback window sticker.
Note: The "sold to" section appears on the 66 reproduction form.

Yep they are different forms both for the 65 Mustang :)

Apparently they wanted to highlight the Tiffany award early in the model year

Yes, Tony's Garcia's Repro Window Stickers DO have the "SOLD TO:", and so do Kevin Marti's Repro Window Stickers.   Garcia is Super Quick, is easy to work with, and you'll literally receive it in days.....With Marti, You're looking at 3-4 months literally...  I'd suggest getting some "original example build sheets" (Not Repros) to work with when building your new Window Sticker(s).  Just a suggestion..

See his example/samples here:

http://mustangstickers.com/samples.htm

Kevin Marti's website is here...

http://www.martiauto.com/windowsticker.cfm

I would not go to anyone else.....

You choose....
