Is the lower bracket that the adjustment bolt attaches to different for a non smog car(with a/c idler pulley) as with smog?  I replaced the special alternator mounting bracket with smog and installed the standard bracket and a/c idler pulley, and now the alternator fan hits the lower bracket.  I wasn't aware there were different lower brackets.  Can't think of another reason the fan would now contact it.

I put a new, slightly bigger belt on....evidently the wrong size belt can allow the alternator to be in a positioned to have the fan contact the bracket when tightening the belt....I thought any position within the adjusting slot on the bracket would work...guess not.

Well....that didn't fix the interference.  Attached are pics of the adjustment bracket.....in case someone sees something I don't.  There was no interference before I exchanged the special smog alternator bracket for the a/c idler pulley alternator bracket.....the slotted adjustment bracket was fine before with no interference....no changes to the alternator, other than mounting it the standard way with the long bolt and spacer rather than using the "smog" alternator bracket......running out of ideas.

                                                                                                                   Thanks...

Looked for original alternator adjustment braces on line and if I'm not mistaken, this is not correct and I assume accounts for the interference....?

Yep.....looks like the wrong bracket....didn't think the slotted adjustment brace would be different for smog and non-smog cars......boy, I've never answered my own posting so many times, any way, appears the problem is solved.

According to the MPC, the T/E version you need to look for part number C6OZ-10415-A.  What's on the picture is the engineering or casting number.

Another source says you need part C6OZ-10145-A, casting C6OE-10145-A.  Looks like the correct part for T/E.  The non-T/E would be C5AE-10145-C, casting C5AE-10145-A.

I can definitely concur that the bracket you have is for a T/E setup. Mine is exactly the same. I just did a search on eBay and there are several of the C5AE brackets for sale right now, various conditions:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/65-66-Ford-Fairlane-Comet-Mustang-289-Alternator-Adjusting-Bracket-C5AE-10145-A/221638119635?hash=item339aa950d3:g:08AAAOSwCdNZbtcV&vxp=mtr

One of these should get you the results and correctness you're looking for.

Randy : I think you had a couple of "dyslexic moments" : 10145, not 10415. Please correct.
