Hello

Can someone help with the vacuum modulator line routing?

My car is a 1967 289 base convertible with power steering as the only option. The brakes are manual and the car was built at the San Jose factory mid April of 1967.

The modulator line was missing when I received the car.  I purchased a line from In Line tube that had a 180 loop on one end with a fitting that was not correct,
this was the only line they had listed for the 67 mustang 289. I purchased a second line from Classic tube that they said was for the 67 mustang 289 that was completely different than the first line and has piece of rubber vacuum tube on each end. This line seems more correct but I cannot figure out how it should be routed. It seems the only way it will reach the vacuum modulator valve is to run at an angle across the transmission.

Since its a 289 with just power steering and a C4 built in April at San Jose is or was it a Thermactor car?

And just in case - is it a 2V or 4v 289?

There is at least a Thermactor C code built in April at San Jose in the unrestored Picture section that shows the start at the intake. Will look for more picture once we get it narrowed down to save time

Yes it is thermactor  car, sorry I should have mentioned this.

You should check the assembly for a drawing. There are two clips that hold it, one on the bell housing and another on the RH side of the transmission.

I found more information about the vacuum modulator line. There is a picture on page 49  the 1967 Ford Mustang  parts and body manual that shows all the
modulator lines for the 1967 ford motors except the 289 motor.  I went through the manual page by page and found a picture on page 188 titled  "shift control selector Mechanism" 67-68 that shows the vacuum modulator line. I looked through the various Mustang parts supply stores and it appears the one that matches it is the 65-66 modulator line on the CJ pony parts store. I think I will either order this or buy some steel line and try to make it.

Green arrow. Rubber preformed (shape of an "L") connection hose



Guess you have figured out where the tube is attached at the engine end.

The image represents the correct routing for the modulator hose and retainers. Notice the Pre-Formed elbow rubber hose at the modulator. There has been discussions about this elbow hose in other threads.

I do wish to also mention the bellhousing pictured is not correct for a 67 Mustang.

Also, the modulator itself is incorrect for a 67, as a 67 is threaded in, does not use that forked retainer.

Thanks Richard for commenting abut the other details in the picture. Should have mentioned those when I first posted  Bell housing is the first thing that stood out. Glad that I found one out of a car that had not been stripped of the vacuum hoses. The reason to use it.
