Hi guys,

Is there a way to recover the casting number of my car..? I believe there should be a number, but looks like it’s rusted and the number missing. I thought they could be casted so I could see them, but nothing..
Any help..? Thanks.

Confused by the picture you posted. Where is this?  What engine is this?  Since your list that you have both a 6 cylinder and a small block 66.

Since casting numbers stand up and away from the main body all you can do is clean the surface or any costing, dirt and grime. Then take pictures using light sources from multiple angles if its not visible with the naked eye. You can then play with the pictures adjusting contrast and amount of lighting. This may help

The surfae your looking at from the picture appears that your may be referring to a stamped set of numbers - those would not be casting number but instead assembler, machining, inspector or rebuilders doing.

It may be this portion of the Block in his photo...my photo is of May 1965 289 Engine.

Yes, Ray is correct, I am referring to the 289 car, sorry for the misunderstanding.
OK, I will try to do what Jeff recommends and see if I am lucky.

Assuming your Engine is a 289, look in this area behind the Starter for the Casting Date.

The area in your photo, though in focus, is too difficult to pull anything definitive from.

I spotted what may be some stampings in this area, is that what you are referring to?

It may be this portion of the Block in his photo...my photo is of May 1965 289 Engine.

That surface was popular for rebuilders to use for marking engines that they had rebuilt. Can be job/invoice numbers, names - all kinds of stuff

Thought I had a couple fo examples but can't locate them at the moment
