1965 Original Key Code Tags
« on: August 21, 2010, 03:28:53 PM »
I was wondering where the tags with the key codes for the locks were when cars left the factory.  I found my original key code tags attached to the wiring harness near the voltage regulator on my May 15th build date SJ 1965 fastback.  Based on the wire holding them on, I don't think that was their original place when the car left the factory.  Thanks.

Is this the small round tag that reads "Record and Detach"?  In the case of my early car it has FE 0248 is is slightly larger than a dime.

ON the same topic - my trunk key is clearly a Mercury head logo key - would that be correct for early early 64 1/2's??

Yes on the key tag info, but I can't answer about the trunk key.

I would have to think that IF you have a trunk key that fits your Mustang with the Mercury logo on it then someone has just used a Mercury key blank to make a copy at one time.
I wish someone would "reproduce" these key tags though-kind of neat to have on the key ring along with original keys-I even went so far as to buy some of those cheapie dealer key rings they use on car lots-kind of sets up the scene at shows.
