Thompson p/s pump shaft bushing
« on: November 19, 2017, 01:03:44 PM »
Does anyone know where to buy just the shaft bushing for a Thompson style p/s pump?  Needed for a '68.

Charles,
Try http://www.pwrbrake.com/ in San Jose, CA. It a bit of a distance for you, but they have a good reputation out here.
Note: expensive too.

Don't know if StangersSite is still in business?

http://www.stangerssite.com/FPparts.html

I hear he is really hard to get ahold of in person but maybe by Email?

Thanks, I had already sent an e-mail to the stanger-site guy.

One of the pumps I removed the bushing from had a Clevite 02302 number stamped in it.

Charles. Dan at Chokostang has those bushings.  He put one in a housing for me while I waited and he made it look easy.  Give him a call and I am sure he will do all possible to help out.  Not sure of his winter schedule since last year he spent the cold months in the south but an email or phone call will provide answers.

Dan replied that he has not found an exact replacement and will change out damaged sections of bushings with good used ones.

I saw a pic of a rebuild kit on stangersite that shows the sleeve.  Hope he replies.

Charles : I of course couldn't find any specs for a Clevite 02302 Bushing. Do you know the ID, OD, and Length, and if it is a "self-lubricating" Bushing ? Also, I assume (?) that it is Bronze.

Just a thought.

Thanks, ordered a couple of those kits!

Great!  Please let us know how they look (bushing included).  I may order one too to have as a spare.

Hey Charles,
When you get the kit, measure the outside diameter of the bushing and compare it to your original bushing.  Unless RPS had the bushing made themselves I know of only one source that makes the bushing and it is for the late 70's plastic housing pump.  That pump used a larger bushing and to get it to fit you'd need to machine down the OD.  I'd be curious if this is the case with the bushing in this kit.

Scott

The bushings that came in the kit were an exact match to the ones removed.

Length:  1.854"
OD: 0.828"
ID: 0.701

There is a splt that runs the length of the bushing, about 0.040" wide.
