Dashpots
« on: June 25, 2010, 01:02:34 PM »
Ok...I had a 65 C-Code 20 years ago that had the original dashpot on the Autolite 2100 carb, and it worked.  It's suppose to be a "slow-letdown" device that keeps the engine from quitting when you let off the gas quickly.  It hits the dashpot plunger BEFORE it hits the idle stop screw, and then the dashpot is suppose to leakdown slowly 'till the idle stop screw is contacted.

QUESTION: What's with the new repop dashpots.  I've bought 1 new from Pony Carburetors, off Ebay, and bought 1 new from NPD.  Neither one hast the "leakdown" characteristic.
Both of the new ones LOOK correct but don't function at all.

Pony Carbs (Jon) built me a 4100 112 venturi Autolite specially for use on my '78 F150s 302 on a stock cast iron '66 intake (Truck was automatic) he strongly suggested a dashpot as an anti-stall device-it always worked well for me-I'd always use a dashpot on an automatic trans equipped car.
