Adding ac w/ non ac harness
« on: May 29, 2018, 06:08:05 PM »
Sorry, not a concours question...but 69 mustang nonetheless.  I have a 69 fb that I want to add AC to.  I have most of the items now including the ac/heater controls.  Any idea what wiring changes I would need to make to allow it to work?  I struggle with wiring, and am colorblind.  Obviously I'll have help on this end locating the right wires...just curious if anyone has done this.  I would think that I just need to run a line out to engage the compressor when the ac is enabled...and if needed one to the carb and add the needed kick up solenoid.

Thanks for any assistance!

I do this all the time.  Two wires go out to the passenger area, breaking out of the harness where the turn flasher can wires break out.  One of those wires goes back to the area where the 5 prong heater switch resides; the other goes out past the firewall grommet for the clutch compressor.  A fifth wire is added to the heater switch connector with a short segment.  The bitch is routing the wire through the firewall grommet.  There's no choice other than to cut the wire and fish the wire through the grommet, leaving the large female bullet in the engine compartment side.  Fishing the wire through the grommet is no easy task.  Once done, you'll have to splice the cut wires back together.

Be forewarned: it appears that the heater box wires are re-located in the harness from the non-AC version to the AC version, but electrically, they are identical.

Thank you Midlife!  I'm still a long way away from this on the car, I wanted to find out now in case I had to source a difference harness or other parts.  Would you mind if I sent you a pm if I run into questions on this?

No problem with a PM but I prefer e-mails so I can follow the discussion a bit better and keep a record off-line.  For some reason, PM notifications are not including the message anymore.
