Topic: Mexican 65

A friend saw this car last week end and took these really tiny pictures.  He retold a rather involved tale which I can't repeat.  Of interest is this factory stock Mexican made 65 hardtop with these odd bumperettes and, look closely, chromed tube connecting the bumperettes and extending to the end of the bumper front and back.  Also part of the tale; the engine compartment is painted the original exterior body color and a few other Mexican plant oddities that I can't recall.  Any truth to any of this ?Brian

See its licensed in Calif now. Believe when we saw it was up near the Great Lake area or at least where it was shown








Don't think the extra big hole was there originally but the restorer left it




If you can read it maybe the paperwork will confirm

Though the regular bumper guards might get confused with the larger IMHO ugly ones

Looks like the same car that has been on ebay for over a year or so, buy it now price around $40k.  Might still be there.

Is the snorkel suppose to be gold like the rest of the air cleaner?  Is the heat tube then still black or gold as well?

The US built cars, no, but who knows what is right/wrong with these Mexican built cars.

So if one came to a MCA show, how is it judged?

Good question.  I don't see how it could go in a concours class with MCA as there is nothing in the rules about them.  If I was head judge, I would most likely have them enter in occasional driven or display.

Any idea of the VIN of the "Mexican" car?

Believe (have pictures of others and there was a "registry"/web site dedicated to them at one point)  its 5MEX07C10733x

Later cars such as 67's VINs started with 7F07 then two letters followed by a set of numbers 69 Mexican Shelbys (other Mexican built example I have pictures of) are similar but different patterns
