Where did you find that Ford switched over to the D78 tires?
Nowhere, but when the 7.35-14 went extinct, there was no exact replacement, the closest in the industry would have been a D78-14.
It's easy to find optimum rim width info for a D78-14, but not a 7.35-14 for some reason.
Therefore it follows that the rim Mike is looking for is a 14X5.
The link you supplied is a book likely assembled from the old (non Ford source) exchange manuals every wrecking yard had at one time showing what would fit or could be used to repair or replace.
The left hand column is the switch-a-roo side, and the right hand column is the original fitment side.
So Mike's car should have the 14X5 rims then, and that would be with the white paint dob?
Seems like he wants to be exactly correct with the purchase and refinishing of his rims.
