The first picture are the slider assembly that came with my '65 Fastback.  It was in a box of parts along with some of the remaining interior bits when I bought the car.  The screws in the first picture has M in the center of the head.

The second picture are two sets of spares I have.  One set has slotted hex head screws while the other set is the same for one side and a mix of hex slotted heads and CP in the center of the screw heads.

What is correct for a 10/2/64 scheduled build '65 fastback from the San Jose assembly plant?

One last question:  What screws would be used to attach the slider assembly to the C-pillar?  I seem to recall my SJ built January '65 scheduled build fastback had the CP screws.

Thanks in advance.

Yes on the CF screws. This is where we would find them for transfer to the more visible front grill area . Then AMK came out with them. I assume they are still available from AMK.

Bob,

Thank you for confirming the correct attaching screws for the slider assembly.  I'll be using the original assembly since it's what came with the car but I'll have to use CP screws to attach one of the rails since the M screws for it are missing.

The CF marked screws were typically more commonly used in that area. The front grill also which is why we robbed them from the slider area where they are hidden once interior is installed.

I'm not so sure about the "CP" marked heads of the screws. I believe they would be "CF" markings. These are the same style and size as the ones used on the 64-66 grill, 42127-S8 (clear zinc), except they should be a -S2 finish (phosphate). These are the 14 used for to attach the vent assembly to the body. I've found that type on several of my Fastbacks in that application but with one difference, they were slotted as well as hex drive screws, no head marking.
To the original poster, I recommend you get a set of the Osborne Productions, Mustang Assembly Manuals for your year car. There is more than just 14 screws to attach the vent, there's calk, tape and plastic sheets involved, plus black out paint.

I'm such an dweeb.  Thank you for catching that.  Yes, they are CF hex head screws.

And thank you for reminding me about the other details where the slider assembly attaches.  The whole interior is a disaster area and I have many days of research to do.
