'68 Shelby vs Cal Special fog light mounting
« on: July 30, 2010, 08:53:00 PM »
Doing some research and it seems that the mounting for the Lucas lights on the '68 Shelby and Cal Specials may have differed..

Anyone got photos or sketches showing the difference?  If it exists...

The lamps are the same but the CS uses a unique mounting pedestal. I'll see if I can dig up a pic

Tim,

I have a Branda CS kit, it came with a sketch supposedly from Shelby noting the pedetal mount of the Lucas lights to the grille inserts (lower "L" pices) drilled thru the lower grille molding and the stoneguard.

That looks like a standard 68 GT fog bracket.  Was that used on the Shelby's, or a CS style pedestal?

Do you have a pic of the actual mount of the lamp to the grille from the front?  The CS kit has a tubular threaded sleeve-nut to fit below the fog.  I have seen some references to Shelby's with a larger square chrome base piece (I have a few of these as well, very different than the Branda CS kit).

Most of the pics I've seen of 68 Shelbys are as below, which appers to use the pedestal mount, not fog grill bars??? Or is there a difference from GT500 to GT500KR?  Hard to tell how its actually mounted from your pic.

The Shelbys used the square base chrome pedestal on the Lucas and a unique S8MS spacer on the Marchals (which I reproduce) I actually saw a CS grill today that was identical to the picture I sent you but the fog lights were off so I didn't see if/what spacer they used.

Yes the mounting is different - Cal Spec used some metal plates (reinforcements) that look like the horn AC spacer on the driver side on 69's)

Not sure if I have a good close up but will have to look

Sorry, missing something in the pic as from that angle it looks like the fog light is mounted to the bracket, like standard '68 fogs, not the pedestal moount (which attaches to the lower trim, not the grille AFAIK).

Here is a pic of how I thought the Cal Special fog lights go, looks similar to the Shelby pics I posted, but nothing like Tim's...???
