Paint OK stamp - 69 Dearborn
« on: December 18, 2016, 09:29:09 PM »
On my 69 Cougar I found a stamping on hood reading  PAINT OK 612  I guess they call it a baseball diamond shape. Is their anyplace to get these?

As mentioned over on the Classic Cougar Community forum this style of stamping for a paint inspector is very very rarely seen especially on Cougars. Maybe one out of a thousand or more since Dearborn change over to using the small square stickers to indicate checks and inspection had been done. This stated to change in late 69 production.

The usage of the old style of inspector stamp may indicate that the inspector for that shift was a fill in worker and didn't have his own stickers or it was a worker who had been a line paint inspector 5 years prior at the plant and still had his stamp in his locker. On similar 68 production cars stickers were still used for all the other checks  just that the individual paint front parts were stamped with the ink base ball diamond style.
