67 289 Engine paint details
« on: November 22, 2016, 11:34:42 PM »
Hello all, I am in the final stages of getting my engine ready for paint.  I was hoping that somebody could help me with the following details.  I have searched on the site and have found several great pictures, but not able to find all my answers.  Need to know if the following is to be painted ford blue.
1.  Distributor hold down and bolt
2.  Bolt for engine ID tag.
3.  Heater hose elbow in the intake manifold.
4.  Lower smog pump/alternator bracket.
5.  Oil fill tube in valve cover.  If yes, was it all of it or did it have part of it covered?
6.  I understand that only 1 or 2 bolts were in each valve cover, but what about the wiring harness j hooks that go under the valve cover bolts.
7.  Was the ground strap installed or was the intake bolt unpainted?
Car details are in my signature.
Sorry for all the questions.  Just want to get the details correct.
Thanks
John

Thank you Bob.  On number 5, was the entire twist in filler tube painted.

I'll be detailing my 11/2/66 built A-code DSO 71 soon enough. Very much the same build time as the O.P.'s car.
I thought I read elsewhere that the cast iron smog pump/alternator bracket was shot blue (overspray). And the only other wonder I had about Bob's answers was also about the fill tube. (I thought it would have been natural)

IMHO yes - always found the pump and alternator bracket installed and with mounting hardware block color.

As for the breather tube attached to the drivers side valve cover I believe it has a slip over mask during paint application much like the water pump and thermostat housing to keep paint off the ends or connection points. Appears that it may have had a plating to reduce the chance of rusting

I will concede those two points as I am not 100% sure on those and trust in my peers filling in the gaps.
