67 REAR Bumper Guard Impact Strips Pads
« on: October 31, 2016, 09:57:42 AM »
In replacing my 11/66 REAR Bumper Guard impact strip, I see the replacements have a "hook" on the top edge where the originals do not.

Is this yet another running change or just a reproduction thing? I never noticed this before. Number on back is C7ZB-17A807-A

I no longer have my original front impact strips since I put reproduction ones on years ago and never kept them. May be another topic with similar differences. I did notice on another used set of front bumper guards a number of C7ZB-17A812-B so it looks like there may have been a change on the fronts also. (suffix-B)

Anyone else pick up on this?

My original front as well as the NOS replacements have the hook. The rear ones are playing hide and seek (and winning)   But I have a feeling that the hook is original on the back also.  But I'm not hooked on that feeling if you know what I mean.   I recall installing NOS for the rear in 1981.  I have an unrestored set floating around but am so buried in parts right now it may be spring before they show up.  Either that or I'll come across them but forget about this conversation altogether.

Curious, could a car have come from the factory with a chrome set of bumper guards on the front and a color coded set with the impact strips on the rear???  I replaced this exact description on my Metuchen 11/66 coupe as that is what was on the car when I started it's restoration. We are the third owner and very little was "changed" on the car when we took ownership in 81'. It had man of it's original components with the exception of the usual , battery, exhaust, tires, and alternator. The car had all original sheet metal at that time with no collision repair/replacement except for an unfixed dented pass. fender that we replaced later. Just one of those things not usually replaced unless major damage??

Yes, this has been addressed many times in other threads.

For 67's, that was the ONLY way they came. Aftermarket or owner upgrades are the ONLY way to see chromed rear bumper guards.

In 67, the fronts (before around May of 67) came with impact strips on the chromed guards. REAR always has the rubber strips.

68 year model has a different set of rules and has been discussed already in other threads

Awesome, thank you. Just thought i would ask since the topic was being discussed.  I have quickly learned that my "restored" 67' coupe is continually getting updated since I have been on this site.  ;D

I'm interested in them if Ralf isn't.  My '67 is Dark Moss Green......close enough for me!   :)

Ralf: I'll dig them out over weekend & figure pricing. Have you bought from me previously?
