1967 1968 console automatic shift plate assembly
« on: April 05, 2017, 04:51:15 PM »
I have a 68' automatic console I recently bought and I'm in the process of cleaning it up and getting it back together. My question pertains to the automatic shift plate. Has anyone repainted the white letters in the plate, the P,R,etc... Some of this "paint' looks to be gone and I'm trying to find out how to restore the letters to be presentable. If paint is the way to go, what type of paint would be recommended?? Thanks for a reply.

i have done the fusebox letters with a water based paint. laid it in & wiped off the excess. maybe something like this would work.

I have had success with Testors bright white. I paint the letters then wait a few minuets then wipe excess off with a paper towel dampened with paint thinner.

Might want to polish the lens before you repaint them

IF you do clean them well before you add the paint detail
