Accent Group Side Stripe Color Thread
« on: December 20, 2021, 08:19:16 PM »
The question of which colors were used with what interior and exterior options came up in another thread so thought I would post some pictures of unrestorred cars to provide some guidance and examples of what was done in 65. This group are Dearborn built cars.

5F07D112xxx - White stripe

5F07F157xxx - Black stripe - Int code  89

 5F07A270xx - White stripe

5F09A28xxx - White stripe - Int code 26

5F07C701xxx - White stripe

5F08C727xxx - Black stripe

The red 64 - 5F07D198xxx - White stripe - doesn't have a fender badge.

I do not have a 1964 or 1965 Color and Upholstery Book, but possibly they may have a Section like is in my 1967 Color and Upholstery Book (*copy attached).

I just checked my 66 Color & Upholstery Book, and it too had a page on Accent Stripe Colors (page attached). That being the case, I'd say that there is a good chance that the 65 Color & Upholstery Book does also. For the 64-1/2, probably not so good of a chance since it came out later, and a Revised page would have had to be issued. If it were, then there is only about a 50-50 chance that the Dealer would have inserted it into the Book.

Thanks for posting these!
Hate to ask the dumb question but how do I read this?
For eg on the Aug 64-Aug 65 chart, using my car, the intersect of Palomino 29 and Ivy Green R there is no X in the box. Scrolling down to Stripes w/Accent group there is an X for white.
My car was ordered from the factory with 29 and R, with the accent group.
So it came with the white stripes, or?
Appreciate if someone can straighten me out.
Thanks,
Andy

No we can't be certain what color was applied - those charts were only suggestions and most often used for the production of stock orders. Those are orders where the cars were built and shipped to the dealer to build inventory as well as having floor models but without potential buyers.

Since may of the cars were built to fill waiting orders while the buyer waited those could differ from the suggested combinations as we've seen examples of in the past.

We can look for some additional examples but I would side with what Ford did build rather than what they said in a document.

I do know my car was built for an existing customer order, not a stock or inventory order, but that probably doesn't help me. Nothing on the sales order or window sticker other than "accent group" along with other options such as hi-po engine, 4 Spd trans, visibility group, tinted glass all around, back up lights and undercoating. Lost to time I suppose.

I did some research for mine and found somewhere that the white is Wimbledon white.

I can add one color here for sure. Vintage Burgundy.  My family had two unrestored Original Vintage Burgundy (Paint code X) Convertibles.  Both bought new off the Dealer lot.  One was a '65 Regular Production 289 C-Code car (My Uncle), and the other was a 1966 Sprint 200 Convertible with a 200 cid (My Father).  The cars looked like identical twins from the outsides.  Both cars had Black Standard interiors (Code 26 on the '65 and Code 26A on the '66 Sprint 200) and both cars came with Black Convertible Tops.  Even though both cars had Black interiors and Black Convertible tops, The Painted factory Tiffany Accent Stripe on both cars was White.  I wish that I had the VIN#'s to either car....Unfortunately after many years of searching, I came up empty on that.

Does anyone have an idea which color code (in my case a Wimbledon White convertible with a red stripe) should be used for the stripe. The Pinstriper uses "Du Pont", but here in Germany we have the RAL color system. So we have a lot of different "reds". For example, I have RAL 3001 (signal red) and 3002 (crimson red)as possible options.
I would be grateful if someone can help me with the right red color for the stripe on my 1964 1/2 convertible.
