1969 Mach 1 Driver sport mirror remote cable installation
« on: October 03, 2020, 05:11:04 PM »
I have a driver side sport mirror for 69 mach 1 but the cable is cut. I bought an original cable & remote that is already attached to the mirror assembly. How do i install it on the sports mirror housing?

Believe the only way to make this happen is to detach the cable from one end or the other. Slip it through the housing and reattach.

Maybe someone else knows a better or slicker was of getting it done. Did check/search the subject on four other sites and I didn't find any short cuts or secret methods

How about a picture of the cables at the mirror end. If the cable sheaths are crimped to the mirror housing end as they are shown in the picture at the control end, you need to open the crimp "slightly" to allow the sheath to move down and the cable to slip thru the opening you just made. Before you do any of this, paint each sheath and crimp for reference. You can thank me later for that hint.

At the control end each of the cables were marked originally as well as the socket for each. Material appears to be pot metal so there is little give before things break though you might be able to remove a section with a drimel tool and then epoxy each back in place. You can remove the cables from the mirror end but most of the time this means breaking the mirror, removing the the glue/epoxy then removing the cable ends then reversing the order when done. If I recall correctly the mirror ends of the cable ends each slip into a receiver slot on the plate at the back of the mirror

Because of all the issues and challenges most, when it comes time to paint simply disassemble but so not remove any of this but instead just mask them all and paint the whole mirror in an exploded view sort of situation

Based on what I'm reading, you want to use the cable and control from one mirror on another mirror. To me that would involve removing the cable from both mirrors at the mirrors and swapping them. I don't see that addressed.
It was interesting about the cable disconnect feature at the control.
