Wanted C6OE-A water pump
« on: July 03, 2016, 01:29:53 PM »
Hello all,
I have a Dec '66 built A code 289 that I am in need of a water pump.  Looking for an original that is rebuilt or is able to be rebuilt.  From what I understand, I should need a C6OE-A cast iron pump.  I have heard these pumps are fairly common to find, but I have not had any success so far.  Dose anybody have one or a lead on where I can search for one.
Thanks,
John

The person or place that lead you to believe that they were easy to find should have provided you with the easy to find places. They are very hard for me to find today compared to 20 years ago. You can try auto parts stores and look at the various rebuilt ones to see if by chance you come across a C6 casting. You can also pay for some else's time and expertise who has already done the searching. It depends on how important it is to you. The auto parts store version will typically be less expensive then the one picked by a parts seller. West coast Cougar,Marcus Anghel Restorations are just a couple of forum members that sells parts. Already rebuilt or usable core will effect the price also. Check every place else first and if you don't find any PM me . They are a hard pick for me, others may be different.  Best of luck with your search.      ,

Try Fred Ballard at Fred's Classics fredsclassics@hotmail.com He deals mostly in 289 High Performance Mustangs but has a lot of NOS and rebuilt parts. He is on this forum sometimes as well.

Thanks Bob and Jim,
Parts store didn't seem interested in letting me look thru their parts.  Found that anymore local part houses are only stocking 1 rebuilt pump in the store.  Not much to choose from.   :( Jim, I emailed Fred last week and haven't heard back.  I will give him more time and maybe he will see this post.  Thank you both for the feedback.

I asked the manager at a local NAPA and he said no to me going thru their inventory too. There was a local auto parts store, I think is was "Auto Parts Club" (no longer in business), and you had access to the "store room". It was great. I got a couple of 65-66 distributors for 289 4V MT and AT engines, a 4100 for a 65 AT and several alternators. The problem today is not access but the poor quality of the exterior of carburetors, distributors and alternators - the rebuilders bead blast them clean, removing most of the part numbers or other details. Most of the counter guys say - "Well, it'll work." They have no concept of original.

Try these guys in Albany Oregon: Hart Brothers Core Co. 541-259-4278. I bought a C6OE-A pump from them last year and it's perfect. They do a nice job rebuilding them, not as expensive as others out there on eBay (where they sell mostly) and man, are they great and knowledgeable on the phone. They have 100% positive feedback on eBay too, which after you talk with them, you'll see why. Fred may come through for you too. He gets real busy, just give him some time.
