67 390 GT exhaust manifold change over ?
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:40:44 PM »
I'm working with a 67 390 GT motor from Dearborn  and I  removed the non factory blank spacer from the passenger side exhaust  manifold to install a factory exhaust control valve and found the valve doesn't fit against the manifold. So a look at the number on the manifold read C7OE-C which has a larger boss at the base of the stud where the valve meets the manifold, and the reason why it wont work. Was there a change over from the C6 manifold during 67 and I may have the right manifold and the wrong valve ?  The car has a build date of April 28 1967 and the engine has early April dates.

68 valves are different then 67 .One has the thermo control on one side and the 68 on on the other.I wonder if you have the wrong valve.I believe the 67 assembly manual has a illustration someplace on which you can determine .

Bob, that was my first thought but I wasn't sure if the C7 manifold was correct for my time line.

Pix would help.

The 'actuating arm/spring' should face the passenger side fender (faces outboard). It is quite close to the firewall.
I hope this helped...

Mine is a very early Dearborn (but SO California DSO is 72 car ;) )

The valve I have would face the fender with the weighted wheel and its at this point the wheel has interference with the manifold.

It appears I do have the correct valve.
