GT500 Engine Finish Details
« on: January 21, 2020, 10:33:45 PM »
I'm almost ready to paint the engine but two questions have come up. The first is whether the heater hose outlet elbow is painted or not? I know the nipple to the water pump was installed after paint but no such guidance regarding the curved outlet elbow.

The second is the PCV system. I have no heartburn painting the bypass hose and clamps with the engine but for some reason the PCV fittings and rubber hose really bothers me. Was the whole system painted? It seems kind of strange to paint the PCV hose only to have to move it out of the way to install the aluminum valve covers.

Any help or documentation would be appreciated.

The curved heater hose fitting is painted. All of the pcv system was painted. The added accessory vacuum block was not painted as it was added after engine painting on the assemblyline most likely. The amount of paint on the  pcv hose varied given that the block that the PCV valve screwed into was not to be painted. Some of the blocks were partially painted on one end of the spectrum all the way to the other end of the spectrum where the paint faded have way back on the rubber hose before the elbow.

I suppose you already saw this thread and have read the article Marcus did.

It has at least one picture related to your requests

As the picture shows not all of the system was painted engine color but that is only a couple of pieces in a much larger system but focusing on the outer curved hose,  yes you can find blue paint out to the end of the hose  including sometimes even the PCV block  (as Bob mentions above) where it attaches to the PCV  or others fade away back at the first formed bend in that hose as well as in between these two points (Wording as been changed to clarified better - too many not's and nor's in the first version :)

Picture from the unrestored picture thread showing the remains of blue paint way out towards the end on this example

The rear attachment point from another example in the Unrestored picture thread

So the rear vacuum fittings aren't painted. How about the front fitting? I'm assuming that one would be on the engine when painted so it should be completely covered?

The base fitting in the rear was painted but not the components that screw into it.  Yes, the front vacuum fitting in the manifold was painted.
