Trying to identify selling dealership
« on: June 16, 2010, 01:18:43 AM »
I am trying to identify the name of the dealership my 66 fastback was purchased through.  I asked the original owner last week and all she could remember was that it was one of the "popular" Ford dealerships in Santa Barbara, CA.  The dealer sales code on my owners card is "5417."

Is there a way to figure out Santa Barbara dealerships operating in 1966 or is there a way to correlate the dealer sales code with the number I mentioned above?

I'm sure it's not the esiest way, but the CA Sec. of State's website and a historical search during that time frame of Articles of Incorporation may help.

Have you tried contacting Ford?

K. Marti might be able to help, give him a call.

I'll try Marti again and perhaps try Ford. When had contacted Marti a year or two back he didn't have much information.

I think B. Perkins used to have a list of dealerships, not sure if it included the dealership ID or how old the list was.  You might give him a ring.

Just out of curiosity, what do you plan to do with the information?  Or is it just that it would be nice to know where it came from and if the place is still in business.  I am only asking becouse I know where my car came from but haven't done anything with the information and I cant imagine  spending a lot of time trying to figuring it out.  Now if I could figure out how to contact the original owner I would love to hear there memories of the car.

Good question.  I bought my car from the original owners several years ago.  They ordered the car with a special paint code and options they wanted, etc.  I have a fair amount of history and documentation related to the car.  But this is one piece of information I don't have.  Since they specifically ordered the car instead of it being just a general retail sale I think it would be interesting to know what dealership they ordered from and if it is still in business.

I have to agree on this one.  I too, am looking for my Dealership code.  I know Perkins a nd Marti have these codes. I wish that they would publish a listing of them.. or at least what they have..

Still looking for my dealership code for 1966:

Cape Canaveral Motors, Eau Gallie, FL (Existed 1963 thru 1969) , Dealer code ?????  (Present day, Melbourne, FL)

The dealership still exists today, but changed to Ray Hunt Ford in 1970 which also had a sister dealership up in Daytona, FL (with the same Ray Hunt Ford name)that sold Shelbys and Cobras, It was Ray Hunt Ford in 1970 until 1975 and then changed to "Kelly Ford" which is what it is today at the same location 46 years later.

I know that through the 1967 to 1969 data that Kevin Marti has..He could easily get me the Dealer code.  I think that I e-mailed him a few times, I don't ever remember getting a response back, though I know he is a really nice guy.

When I get my car back on the road... I will take some "today" photos of my car at the same dealership.

I had tried to do some of my own research on this dealer code thing, but hadn't looked at it in a while. I had found a website months ago with a list of codes and their location (about 1800 codes). Dealer code 5417 was listed as Kemp Ford on Thousand Oaks Blvd in Thousand Oaks, CA 91632 which is about 52 miles from Santa Barbara. I don't know if this helps or even correct but maybe gives you a start.

Dave

The code for Kelly Ford in Melbourne that I have is "4808", again don't know if this is completely correct for 1966.

Well, It's a start, but not a definative answer...

I'm pretty sure that the Dealer code would have changed when the Dealership changed hands through different owners...  Anyone know???

Great question.
