1970 NJ Pinch Weld blackout
« on: April 05, 2016, 06:11:57 PM »
Looking for info for the pinch weld blackout on a NJ 1970 Mach 1. I looked at the post on the 1969 and it looks like all plants blacked the weld out. Is it the same for 70?

Believe the black extended further up the side to cover the gap between the rocker(pinch weld) and the side cladding for the same purpose as the black out between the panels on the quarter panel, door, front fender. Any (especially with all the bold bright colors)  showing through the gaps really stands out when a 70 Mach I is viewed from the side on those cars - a real distraction ;)

Will look got some pictures to illustrate.

Thanks for the replies. Pictures would be great Jeff. The blackout area on the rear is correct, on my car, but it is not on the pinch weld.

Well here is what I can offer - always wish it was more and the examples were more pristine but unfortunately when it comes to especially NJ cars its a bit tougher to find them.  After looking at the pictures I see my comment above was not exactly correct. The painters did not reach where the molding would overlap as much as I thought it would - just a little short. Guess the angle of the rocker and the cladding kept that area out of view anyway.

Small sampling so they might have gone higher on some examples but from what I've got its only a maybe - not a fact at this point

Hope these help you in with your project

Not a Mach I detail but threw it in to remind those viewing that this was done before the front fenders were installed ;)

A little weak possibly due to the elements, cleaning  ::)  or a repaint
