1970 Hood Grounding Strap Location Difference

What is the finish on the 1970 grounding strap, is it body color or untouched bare copper finish?
If bare copper what is the best way to clean the strap and not loose the copper luster?

Bare unpainted. I use the old standby of either Brasso or put it in with the other parts in my vibrator bowl with the polish material in it. Basically what I'm looking for is to remove any stains, discolor or unevenness in the finish and as long as I don't put a protectant coat or wax on it it will evenly dull with exposure to air and the moisture in the air over time

Just what I found that works for me on brass and copper items

Thanks Jeff, I will need to get myself a vibrating cleaner, had one years ago for polishing pebbles but sold it at a garage sale, never thinking I would be needing it for my car resto LOL.

U can also try soaking in it in cup of coke soda .

Hi All,
I just discovered this. great archive
I have a 70
Do I need to sand to bare metal for the base of this strap of the cowl?.

I understand the San Jose is the furthest point , where seal starts(good to know as I was going to install near nozzle.

So when hood is closed?? is it exposed over the lip or meant to be tucked away and no interference?

You definetly are not sanding the cowl or paint under the strap.  Its installed as is.  The ground would be coming from the screw going thru the cowl.
As far as your other question (if I understand correctly) you want the strap bent up enough so it actually touches the hood when it is closed.

You definetly are not sanding the cowl or paint under the strap.  Its installed as is.  The ground would be coming from the screw going thru the cowl.

+1 For the grounding of the hood and reduce radio interference it must make contact. Shaping the strap controls how much contact is made

Since this is a 69 thread I'm going to break these post off and start a new topic so that we can look and focus on 70's

And just to confirm that the typical location for attachment, like in 69, for San Jose cars is the same. AT the end of the forward edge attachment area on the passenger side.

Examples include: 0R132xxx-0R1366xx-0R150xxx-0R1606xx Lower left one looks a bit further inward due to the fact that the weather strip for the hood is pulled farther to the passenger side than the other examples

You don't need to sand a contact patch on the hood side ether. If you look at the pictures you will see turn up sharp edges on the ends of the extended sections. That is to dig into the paint so as to reach metal for contact.
