65 San Jose battery post shield question - Oct 64
« on: December 10, 2016, 08:44:09 PM »
My Oct 64 SJ has no rubber battery post shield at all. No staple holes or anything. Would this be normal?

Would not expect to find one that year and plant. Your positive battery clamp would have had a red rubber shield over the connection and post

By the book, the rubber shield was a 66 application. None on a 65, which is the way my May, 65 San Jose GT Fastback is equipped.

Do we know when they started using them in SJ?

Looks like job #1 for 66 as best I can tell from what I have. A better question for you might be are there other unrestored examples that didn't have driver side inner fender without the holes for the plugs and no evidence of staple holes? Green cars are ones observed or reported to have no staple holes or pads in place with staples. Underlined examples were ones with holes for staples or pad in place with staples

Focused only on an area before and during were there appears there were possibly issues with staple machine (as we've seen at Dearborn in 69 production) where some cars got them and others did not. Guess there was no back up plan or a second choice if the machine was not working and this may have brought forth the idea of changing the retaining method (to the plastic push pins) to eliminate the need for the stapler and any problems.

Hope this helps

Are you reporting that this car had a shield in/on it? If so, while your reporting, how was it attached?
