Rear Spring Paint Markings, Dearborn, December 1965 Build
« on: February 09, 2016, 03:47:05 PM »
I used the search feature to find the correct rear spring paint makings for a standard suspension 289 convertible. These are the 650# load rating springs with a spring rate of 85#. They should have two green paint markings. My question: Two daubs or two stripes for a Dearborn, December 1965 scheduled build. Based on some other posts I think it's two daubs so I'd like to confirm. Thanks in advance.

What are the markings on your springs and did they "line up" with what you likely read out of a service replacement document?  Not saying its wrong just trying to confirm you've got the right markings for the springs you have installed and for the application.

I am using the data from Pete Bush's "Mustang Codex." All he says is "(2) green dots/stripes" for my standard leaf springs 289 convertible. I could not find any markings on my springs.

.............. I could not find any markings on my springs.

Its a shame that it sounds like your original (at least the short one) springs have been replaced.

I've got blues and teals on different original convertible examples. Problem is that we don't know which ones are original to your car

Best guess for your plant and your time period appears to be daubs/runny spray paint

Thank you. I will go with the spray daub.  Yes, a lot has happened to the car in 50 years especially being from the "rust belt" but I am trying to get it back to showroom condition. It is a slow process.
