65-66 Convertible GT Fog light switch placement.
« on: January 14, 2016, 09:59:14 PM »
Hi All,
Given that my wife's car is a convertible and has the convertible roof switch where my fog light switch is on my GT, I'm not quite sure where the fog light switch should go in her car. Its a Sept 64 SJ car.
Pictures would be great if you have them.

Thanks,

Dan.

Hi,
As there were no Fog lamp switches there for a number of months yet, I would put it in a pre-punched D-shaped hole in the lower parts of the instrument panel. Seem to remember that early GTs could have the switch there even from the factory. I would think there is a "best place" to put it (where your GT has it) and if it was put ther at the same time as the top-switch - they would have to and could also share the space. Probably not so easy now...
cheers!
Claes

The hole/switch would not go anywhere since the GT option was not available in Sept 64 when the car was built. Of course unless it is a A or K code it wouldn't be one either  ;)

For those who did a search and came up with this thread while looking for information for their factory GT power top convertible below is a picture of what is/was an original GT with power top example built in Dearborn 6F08K113xxx

A "C" for choke on an "A" for engine car?
I did a quick eyeball on my 66 "K" Fastback and the Fog Light Switch is located very close to the one in the picture. I note that the convertible top switch bezel is a bit off vertical (camera?) and there appears to be part of the mounting hole visible.
You are going to have to drill a hole so make sure there is nothing behind the hole that may get damaged. Mask, measure, mark, eyeball and measure again.

Did you first check with the California DMV and/or the police department before modifying a VIN?   ;D

Yes, it does Phil. Thanks.
Any chance of a close up showing alignment of the bottom of the two switches? Do they line up at their lowest point?
