67 power steering bracket -- Ford/Thompson vs. TRW
« on: September 01, 2019, 10:03:14 PM »
This was initially posted on the SAACForum but found it interesting enough to post here.

Bob Gaines noted that there are differences between the Ford aluminum p/s bracket and the TRW version in that the text of the part number was different. Since I have a number of pumps in storage I pulled them out.

My Shelby has a Ford pump, a date correct tag and a large letter C7AA-3A732-B aluminum bracket with rectangular outline.

I found another aluminum bracket with almost the same size letters, but without rectangular outline. It was also a Ford pump.

I then went through the  collection (more than three is a collection, right?) and finally found a TRW pump with a bracket and noted that the lettering is very different. The tag on the pump was stamped "4 W 6 7".

Another hunt :)

Going to be difficult to see many of these considering the number of cars with AC. Will have to see what shows up on other examples.

Interesting of the possibility of matching the pump to a different bracket - supposes/suggests that the pumps were shipped with the brackets attached by the supplier IMHO

I measured the two brackets in a few places and see no dimensional differences.

I know you can install/remove the three bracket to pump bolts with the pulley installed, but if I was assembling these in mass quantities I would screw in these bolts before putting on the pulley. Especially with the large Shelby pulley. This does bolster the 'bracket added at place of manufacture' theory.
