Original Ford 6 cylinder engine thermostats from the Factory were 192 Degree thermostats. Most people like to replace them with 195 and 180 degree thermostats. If you live in a warm climate (Lower warmer states, Hawaii, etc. , I highly recommend using a 180 degree Robertshaw or Mr. Gasket High Flow thermostat. If you are in a colder climate, Use the 195 degree thermostat. That is my recommendation.
The 180 degree thermostat is the best for all around year use in most states, You won't have any problems, but if you use the 180 in colder state, It will take longer for the engine to warm up.
I lived on Long Island, NY for 34 years and always had 180 degrees thremostats in all my six bangers, but in the winter, The cars would take longer to warm up I would notice. The last 12 years, I have been here in Melbourne, Florida, and I still use 180 degree thermostats in my six bangers.. No way would I use a 195 degree thermostat here in FLA year round... No way.
