65 Warranty Data Plate
« on: November 21, 2015, 01:26:59 PM »
Hi guys. I'm looking for information regarding my August 64 k code coupe. My original warranty plate has the axle code "E" stamped on the far right of the plate. In fact, so far right that there's no room for the Trans stamp, and there is no Trans stamp on the tag. Not a big deal given we all know only 4 speeds were available in K codes at that time and my Trans has the original vin stamped on it. When I look up axle code "E" it clearly states 3.50 limited slip. While completing my frame off rotisserie resto I removed the rear end and third member and its original tag states it's a 3.89 and not a limited slip.  Also confirmed that its the original 9 in with 3.89 non limited slip while replacing the bearings and seals and found Aug 64 date codes on various parts.  Very strange given I've spoken to the original owner and the rear end has never been changed and is clearly the original with the Kar and has a 4H7 build date and corresponding diff tag! My question is has anyone seen this in 64 built cars where the Warranty tag is in correct regarding the axle?
Thanks
Bartman

Did you count the number of teeth on the ring and pinion gears to see if you really have a 3.89?

Thanks Jeff here's a copy of my warranty plate.  You can clearly see the "E" far to the right and no room even for Trans code.  This is the original tag.  The car was White, then painted blue around 1972, then back to white in the 80's.  The trans, rear end and moto are all original and either VIN stamped (engine and trans) or date code matched (diff).  Thanks

Thanks I did, and definitely worked out to 3.89999999...  It is the 9 inch single track diff specific to K codes of the time, dated and tagged Aug. 64.
