67 rear spring front bolt
« on: December 07, 2015, 06:08:35 PM »
So for the rear spring, front bolt, washer, and nut what is correct for my car?

Mine were rusted solid and had to cut off with a sawsall.

I've bought what was claimed to be a clean original set, and pulled another set from a donor.  I also have a late 90's dated NOS set.  Pictures attached.

The two originals are the same except for the washer.  Dramatic difference.  I will go through pics of what I cut off my car for comparison.

Also what should the finish be?   Looked like remnants of some plating and not bare steel.

The NOS set, like is often the case, correct from a dimensional and most likely strength perspective, but not in appearance.

Mine are from a 11/2/66 built San Jose, about 7 weeks prior to yours. At first, I saw no "F" on either bolt head but after a second look and a scrape down, I see a faint "F" on both bolt heads. (difficult to see in pictures)

I think if I were you I would use the ones from Texas and move on unless somebody else has different ideas.

Zinc, back side of nut is zinc also

I believe that the bolt ,washer and nut are zinc from previous observations over the years. The 3 dash marks with the "F" makers mark is typical on the 67 SJ cars that I study.
